Turf FAQ’s
General
Synthetic grass or Artificial grass blades are comprised of a polyethylene material, a common form of plastic that can be found in items such as bottles and plastic bags. The polyethylene comes in a solid pellet form and is heated down along with any color tones and UV resistant additives. The thatch layer of synthetic grass is made from a polypropylene or polyethylene. The thatch layer gives the turf more support and helps the blades keep form. Synthetic grass blades are inserted into the backing in rows through a tufting machine, which is basically a huge sewing machine with hundreds of needles. This machine gives the grass blades and thatch a more secure hold which also increases the turf’s life and durability.

Turf does get hotter than regular grass, but we have cooling technology in our turf that helps mitigate the heat. Turf is safe for the family, but if you are still not confident, we are able to work around your sprinkler system to allow you the ability to spray down the turf before use. If you don’t have a sprinkler system, hosing off the turf for a minute cools it off.
At Allegiance Turf, we take extensive measures to prevent weed growth. We utilize a contractor-grade weed barrier, specially sourced to be thicker than standard turf distributors offer. Additionally, we advise our customers to treat the area where the turf will be installed with weed and grass killer one-two weeks prior to installation to address deep-rooted weeds. While we strive for optimal prevention, it's important to note that 100% prevention is not guaranteed, as weeds can propogate from airborne seeds or penetrate from below, with some strong enough to grow through concrete.
Lawns can become compacted from heavy usage over time. This causes the grass blades to lay flat and results in an unhealthy lawn. To fix this, simply brush the grass with a regular broom to revive the grass blades.
It is important to clean your artificial turf regularly in order to maintain its appearance. Raking the turf will remove leaves and other debris, and can also help to keep the blades upright and looking natural. For bigger messes, such as pet waste, pick up the mess and then hose down the area. Allow the water to drain afterwards. You can also apply a turf deodorizer if needed.
After your artificial turf is installed, it may take 6 to 8 weeks for the blades to settle. Be sure to check the lawn periodically for any lifted edges or separation between joins. If you notice any of these issues, give us a call right away.

From our experience, the turf products that are best for dogs have two main properties: a short pile height and tightly woven fibers. Dogs, especially small dogs, tend to dislike the way the longer turf feels on their paws and when they are doing their business.
We usually recommend our turf products with a pile height of about 1.5 inches or shorter. In addition to the dogs being happy, we have found that their owners also want turf that looks great and is easy to clean. Our turf products with tightly woven fibers don’t allow for debris and pet waste to easily sink in between the blades, making it easy for messes to rest on top and be cleaned off with a hose.
Our artificial grass for dogs is equipped with the turf industry’s most efficient drainage system. We call it the “DUAL FLOW” drainage system. Each part of the drainage system allows for optimal flow, so liquids (like urine) can flow through the sand, backing, and base easily. Removing solid waste is the same as with natural grass lawns, only it tends to be easier with synthetic grass.
